At Berlin Photo Studio, scanning is not just a step in the process — it’s an artform. It’s the bridge that transforms your developed film into beautifully balanced digital files ready to share, print, or archive.
Let us walk you through our professional scanning process, why we’ve chosen the gear we use, and what makes our approach different from generic labs or automated machines.
High-End Gear for High-Quality Results
We don’t use flatbed scanners or outsourced services. Every scan is made in-house with carefully selected professional digital cameras and macro lenses, built specifically for photography — not office scanning.
- For 35mm film, we use a Nikon D810 DSLR paired with a Nikkor 60mm 1:1 Micro lens, mounted on the Filmomat 135 camera scanning system. This setup ensures sharpness from edge to edge, perfect alignment, and accurate focus for every frame.
- For 120 medium format and panoramic formats, we work with the Sony A7V, a high-resolution full-frame mirrorless camera, paired with a dedicated macro lens. This allows us to handle even the largest frames with stunning clarity and detail.
Both setups are calibrated for consistent color and exposure — with zero compromise.

Color Conversion with Negative Lab Pro
Once each frame is captured, we convert your negatives using Negative Lab Pro inside Adobe Lightroom.
This gives us total control over:
- Color accuracy
- Exposure balance
- Contrast and tone matching
- Film stock emulation (Kodak, Fuji, etc.)
We’re not applying automated presets. We manually fine-tune every roll, one by one, to make sure your photos reflect the true character of the film you chose — nothing more, nothing less.
Handled With Care — Always
Every roll that enters our lab is:
- Handled manually by a real person
- Scanned with attention to each frame
- Cut precisely by hand after scanning, not by machine
Why? Because film deserves respect. Whether it’s your first roll or your hundredth, we treat each one as if it were our own. This means no rushing, no random cropping, no missed exposures.
